Handbag Cakes

This is a selection of my handbag cakes of varying sizes. The small Chanel Purse was an 8" sponge cut in approx half, filled with vanilla and Jam then iced. The handles are held upright using floristry wire inside to strengthen it. I then added 12 cupcakes with a quilted effect on the icing and filled with vanilla buttercream.

The other bags are Radley themed bags all made using vanilla sponge and vanilla buttercream topped with ready to roll icing using various techniques to complete the decor. They are all finished with a pearly spray.

princess cakes

A selection of  Princess cakes. My first attempt was an ordeal as the cake stuck to the specially bought tin, but once I bought the cake release that has made a huge difference and they now fall out with a perfect finish.

Once the sponge skirt is cooked it is really easy to finish and one of my least time consuming cakes.

I roll out the icing quite thin for these otherwise it does not fall nicely to look like material on a dress. I then add the special doll pick into the sponge skirt and decorate her top half usually using matching icing so it looks like one dress. A thin strip of icing in matching or a contrasting colour is them rolled out and placed around the waist similar to a cumber-band to hide the join and give a better quality finish. I then complete it adding silver balls, flowers and diamanté pieces to finish.

Welsh Theme Cake

This cake was for a birthday yet suitable for any welsh theme event or St Davids day!.

It was a plain sponge filled with jam and buttercream covered in a ready to roll icing. I covered half of the cake in a white icing and the other half in a lincoln green icing. The dragon was cut out from thinly rolled out red icing and using a template of the welsh dragon and a sharp craft knife I cut it out. Around the edge I made some leeks from icing and some simple sheep using pastry cutters.

30th Pink Birthday cake

This is a simple and quick birthday cake. Vanilla sponge filled with toffee buttercream covered in a pale pink ready to roll icing. The cake was then finished off with a pearlised lustre and a pink feathers and diamanté arrangement which were wired together and placed in the cake. For something different I decided to use cut out lettering total making time just over 2 hours.

Peppa Pig

A Second Birthday cake. Very simple to make as a bold colours and simple templates used. A chocolate fudge cake covered in pale pink ready to roll icing and edible glitter.

30th Birthday Bling cake

Nightmare - Caused me many sleepless nights as the customer wanted it covered in diamonds to give a Swarovski sparkling effect. My concern was that the sugar diamonds cloud over quite quickly and this cake was being collected at 10am for delivery at 3pm so humidity would cause them to cloud over.

After much testing and trialling I reduced the amount of diamonds used and chose to glaze the cake and cover in holographic rainbow dust to give the sparkly effect and it worked very well.

This cake was 2 separate sponges one a chocolate fudge and the other a vanilla sponge and a toffee buttercream filling.

St Patricks Day/Irish theme birthday cake

This cake took longer as I made some Irish themed run outs for the side of the cake, these included a rainbow, a pot of gold, Irish flag, leaf of clover and leprechaun's head. the cake was a lemon and ginger sponge cake. Again I baked a large 10 egg cake and then placed a template of a 4 leaf clover on to the top and cut round it. It was iced in a simple white icing and using the same template cut out the 4 leaf clover in green to place on the top of the white icing stuck it with water.

I then stuck the runouts on to the side using royal icing. I finished it off with a plaque in the middle out ot ready to roll with Gum Trag in it to set it firm.
